I was lucky enough to spend a week in Malawi, Africa a couple of years ago. A teacher in my old high school had lived in Malawi for several years before teaching in England and so took a group of 40 girls every other year back to the country to help out in orphanages, teach schoolchildren and get a feel of a society so far removed from their own.
The man is a legend in his own right having raised (with much help from various organisations/people) over £500,000 for Malawi in about 10 years.
You can never really predict your reactions to going to a 3rd world country or predict how it changes you as a person. If you ever get the chance to go somewhere like this, do not turn down the opportunity. It sounds cliche, but it truly is life changing. I’m going back this Christmas and can hardly wait.
